The Ámbito Cultural Hall of El Corte Inglés Santiago de Compostela will host, on Thursday 24 September at 19:00 hours, the presentation of “Las tejedoras del mar”, the new novel by Maica Gorgal.

Published on 16 July, the book takes us to the seafaring Vigo of the late 19th century through the story of Catalina and Delaira, two women who grow up sewing nets in the O Berbés neighbourhood while dreaming of a better future. In a time marked by social and economic change, friendship, love, loss and the challenges of fate will test the bonds that unite them.

With a delicate and immersive narrative, Maica Gorgal pays tribute to the Galician redeiras, essential women in coastal communities whose work and legacy inspire this novel.

A graduate in Philosophy and Education Sciences and a teacher in Santiago de Compostela, the author has a notable career in narrative and poetry, recognised with several awards, including the XXII Risco Prize for Literary Creation for “La casa de la mina”.
