Opening of the exhibition '50 Years of Astronomy in Malaga' at El Corte Inglés Málaga
- Date: At may 2
- Schedule: from 19:30 to 21:30

On Friday, May 2nd, starting at 7:30 pm, El Corte Inglés Málaga will host the opening of the exhibition "50 Years of Astronomy in Málaga", which will be open until June 20th.
This exhibition is organized by the Málaga Astronomy Society.
We celebrate 50 years of exploring the cosmos: the Málaga Astronomy Society (SMA) invites us on a fascinating journey through five decades of passion for astronomy. Founded on May 31st, 1975, the SMA has been a pioneer in astronomical outreach in Málaga, and this commemorative exhibition immerses us in its rich history and countless achievements. Through information panels, press releases, and publications, we explore the SMA's most notable moments, from its humble beginnings to its vibrant present, through the thousands of activities that have brought the universe closer to tens of thousands of people in Málaga. The SMA is distinguished by its work organizing night sky observations, from constellation identification to the exploration of celestial bodies in the Solar System and the deep sky, as well as talks, workshops, and courses for all ages to introduce themselves to this science and learn how to use telescopes. The SMA maintains close collaboration with universities, institutes, and scientific associations, including its participation in the University of Malaga's Fireball and Meteor Network and the "Night Watchers" project, a citizen science initiative that combats light pollution and promotes the preservation of the night sky. We will discover the MaHelios group's passion for observing and recording solar eclipses, with an impressive track record of monitoring five eclipses in different parts of the world. The astrophotographs captured by SMA members reveal the magnificence of the universe and capture unique phenomena. A diverse collection of meteorites will transport us to other worlds, while ancient astronomical instrumentation will take us back in time.
The event will feature:
- - Blanca Troughton (Exhibition Curator).
- - Alberto Castellón (President of the SMA).
- - Rosa López (Secretary General of the SMA).
We look forward to seeing you at our center to enjoy the wonders and curiosities of astronomy!
