The Cultural Hall of El Corte Inglés in Málaga presents, on Wednesday 29 April at 19:00 hours, the book “Carne de radio. Historia de un botín de la Guerra Civil en Málaga”, written by Francisco García Muñoz. The event will be introduced by historian and writer José Jiménez Guerrero.

“Carne de radio” traces the trajectory and turbulent history of EAJ‑9 Radio Málaga, a key broadcasting station that witnessed some of the most complex periods in the city’s recent past, from the Second Republic to the post‑war years. Through extensive research, the book offers previously unpublished insights that help illuminate both the evolution of radio and the social and political context of the time.

With more than four hundred pages and nearly two hundred illustrations, the work reconstructs the history of the station, which was located in what is now the Palacio de la Aduana. The narrative highlights figures of great human and professional relevance, such as Ricardo Puente Rodríguez, the station’s owner, whose life reflects the harshness of the historical moment, as well as other individuals linked to the development of radio and Málaga’s social life.

The book also introduces new perspectives on major historical episodes, showing how radio played a fundamental role as a medium of information and connection in a society marked by uncertainty.

Overall, “Carne de radio” not only recovers a story that remained untold, but also invites reflection, contributing to a deeper understanding of Málaga’s collective memory and the role of communication in times of change.
