El Corte Inglés Málaga will host the screening of "La bella del Pacífico" ("Miss Sadie Thompson", 1953) on Monday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. This is the third film in the series "William Somerset Maugham: un escritor para el cine".

Directed by Curtis Bernhardt and with a running time of 96 minutes, the film stars Rita Hayworth, José Ferrer, Aldo Ray, Diosa Costello and Harry Bellaver. The screenplay was written by Harry Kleiner, based on a novel by Somerset Maugham, and the music was composed by George Duning and Lester Lee.

The story follows Sadie Thompson, a nightclub performer who is forced to disembark in Samoa, a Pacific island with a US military base, after the ship she is travelling on is placed under quarantine. The only hotel available begins to attract visits from the naval officers stationed on the island, including Sergeant Phil O’Hara, who falls for Sadie.

However, Alfred Davidson, a man of strict moral principles, disapproves of the performer’s behaviour and tries to make her stay on the island as difficult as possible.

The event will be introduced by Dr Lourdes Jiménez Fernández, coordinator of the film series.
