Talk on “The Artificial Present”: “Who’s Afraid of the Dark Enlightenment”

They declare the end of the Enlightenment. The collapse of modern faith in universal reason, liberal democracy, and human progress. Accelerationist philosopher Nick Land, the dark twin of Mark Fisher, argues that egalitarianism and democratic politics hinder the efficiency and evolution of technical and capitalist systems. Blogger and influencer Curtis Yarvin says that Enlightenment ideals of equality and popular sovereignty must be replaced by a logic of authority, order, and technocratic management.

Marta Peirano, journalist and writer specializing in computing and cutting‑edge technologies, and coordinator of this series, will analyze the rise of this transhumanist accelerationism together with Carlos Fernández Liria, author of the recent Against the Dark Enlightenment, and sociologist César Rendueles.
