Commemoration of Galician Literature Day 2026 – Begoña Caamaño

Activity for Schoolchildren

To celebrate Galician Literature Day 2026, dedicated to Begoña Caamaño, El Corte Inglés is organizing an activity for schoolchildren at its Ámbito Cultural, focusing on the life and work of the honored author.

The event will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ámbito Cultural of El Corte Inglés in Santiago de Compostela, and will include the participation of high school students from the Pontepedriña Secondary School (Santiago de Compostela).

The event will be led by writer Ramón Nicolás, author of the book A nena que perdeu un zapato na lama. Begoña Caamaño no Calvario vigués (1964–1976), with illustrations by Carlos Gallego. Starting with Begoña Caamaño's childhood in the O Calvario neighborhood of Vigo, the author will give a talk that will introduce the audience to her life and literary career.

This unique work combines memoir, biography, history, and fiction, constructed through the voice of Morgana, and allows us to reconstruct and celebrate the author's early years. It is a narrative that connects childhood, place, and personal development, and helps us understand some of the key aspects of the writer who will be honored at the 2026 Galician Literature Day celebrations.

Ramón Nicolás (Vigo, 1966) He is a professor, literary critic, and writer, a regular contributor to various media outlets, and the author of seminal novels and essays in the field of Galician literature.

The book's illustrations are by Carlos Gallego (Santiago de Compostela, 1994), an illustrator specializing in children's and young adult literature, with a distinguished career in literary and educational publications.

This cultural and educational initiative, promoted by El Corte Inglés in collaboration with Galaxia, aims to encourage reading in Galician and introduce the figure of Begoña Caamaño to new generations.
