On Thursday, April 9th, at 8:00 PM, the Cultural Center at El Corte Inglés Santiago de Compostela will host the first official presentation of *Asasinato no muíño do cura* (Murder at the Priest's Mill), the new novel by Arantza Portabales, which will be released that same day.
In this new installment of the "Os crimes de Loeiro" (The Crimes of Loeiro) series, Portabales brings back her protagonists, Detective Iria Santaclara and retired Police Commissioner César Araujo, to delve into a story marked by the weight of the past and a secret that has remained hidden for decades.
The action takes us back to Loeiro, where a massacre that occurred in 1984 at the Priest's Mill continues to have repercussions. The arrival of Alba Mariño, determined to uncover the truth about a past that was stolen from her, triggers an investigation that will gradually break the town's pact of silence.
With the help of Sinda—"the Gestapo"—Santaclara and Araujo will confront the Freijomil sisters and the unsolved murder of young Berta, in a story that builds toward a vibrant finale where the shadows of the past are finally illuminated.
Arantza Portabales (San Sebastián, 1973) began her literary career in 2015 with A Celeste la compré en un rastrillo (I Bought Celeste at a Flea Market). That same year, she received the La Voz de Galicia Serial Novel Prize for Sobrevivindo (Surviving).
Her work Deixe a súa mensaxe despois do sinal (Leave Your Message After the Signal) (2017), translated into several languages and adapted for the stage, won the Casino de Santiago European Novel Prize.
She later solidified her presence in the crime fiction genre with Beleza vermella (Red Beauty) (2019) and A vida secreta de Úrsula Bas (The Secret Life of Úrsula Bas) (2021). In 2023, she published *O home que matou a Antía Morgade* (The Man Who Killed Antía Morgade), and in 2024 she began the “Os crimes de Loeiro” (The Crimes of Loeiro) series with *Asasinato na casa rosa* (Murder in the Pink House).
The author will be signing copies at the end of the event.
