El Corte Inglés Málaga hosts the 4th conference of the cycle “XIX Cita con la Arqueología”, titled “La Alcazaba y la Mezquita Aljama. La configuración de Málaga como capital del Califato Hammudí”, delivered by Mª Carmen Iñíguez Sánchez (archaeologist and coordinator of the cycle), on Wednesday, 23 August at 7:30 p.m.
This edition of “Cita con la Arqueología” commemorates a milestone of great importance for Málaga: the millennium of the Kingdom of Málaga (1026–2026). In 1026, the city became the capital of the Ḥammūdī Caliphate, a dynasty that carried out a series of emblematic works that transformed Málaga’s urban landscape.
The construction of the alcazaba, a mezquita aljama, and the defensive wall of the medina brought about a significant transformation of the city’s appearance—one whose traces have endured to this day.
