On Wednesday, July 30th, starting at 7:00 p.m., you can enjoy the first act of the "Talking about Opera (VI)" series with a lecture and screening of the first act of Richard Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde", 1885.
The talk and screening will be led by Dr. Lourdes Jiménez Fernández, art historian and cultural manager.
About the work
Tristan und Isolde (1865) by Richard Wagner (Leipzig, 1813–Venice, 1883) represented a new musical and dramatic reality in the German composer's career, one that left behind and welcomed musical modernity. With this work, he revolutionized not only the art of opera but also transformed the very sense of harmony and the meaning of instrumental music.
On the occasion of the performance of this Wagner opera in the 37th Opera Season at the Teatro Cervantes, we're going to provide some insights into this opera. To this end, we'll be screening the complete version of Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, at La Scala in Milan in 2007, with the legendary production by Patrice Chéreau.
