#LdeLírica with Amancio Prada on World Poetry Day

At Ámbito Cultural, we are kicking off the celebrations for World Poetry Day with a special edition of #LdeLírica. For this very special occasion, Gonzalo Escarpa interviews the ‘singer of poets’: Amancio Prada

A singer-songwriter, performer and poet at heart, Amancio Prada has dedicated his life to building bridges between tradition and the contemporary world, bringing to life the works of authors such as Rosalía de Castro, San Juan de la Cruz, Lorca and Agustín García Calvo.

We look forward to seeing you at this historic event, where Amancio will share his experiences, his poetry and his songs in conversation with Gonzalo Escarpa.

A unique evening, filled with music, words and celebration!

About Amancio Prada

Amancio Prada (Dehesas, León, Spain; 3 February 1949) is a Spanish composer and singer-songwriter. His work as a composer and performer has always had a literary foundation which, throughout his discography—almost always monographic in content—has gradually shaped an anthological journey through the poetry of the Iberian Peninsula, from the cantigas of the early Galician-Portuguese troubadours (12th and 13th centuries), through the Romancero, Juan del Enzina, Jorge Manrique, San Juan de la Cruz, Santa Teresa de Jesús, Rosalía de Castro, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Federico García Lorca, Juan Ramón Jiménez, María Zambrano, Álvaro Cunqueiro, Carmen Martín Gaite, Agustín García Calvo, Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, Manuel Vicent, Léo Ferré, Luis López Álvarez, Antonio Pereira, Juan Carlos Mestre and Amancio Prada himself.

He adapted San Juan de la Cruz’s 'Cántico espiritual' for voice, guitar, violin and cello; the album has been reissued several times. In 2015, the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra and Choir premiered the symphonic and choral version of this work, conducted by Fernando Velázquez, who also wrote the orchestration.

His professional career has earned him various honours, notably the 1991 IV Centenary Medal of St John of the Cross, the Castelao Medal from the Regional Government of Galicia, the 2005 Castilla y León Arts Prize, the 2008 Sacem Grand Prize for Repertoire, the 2010 Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, the 2010 Tenco Prize, the 2019 Galician Culture Prize, and the 7th University of Seville Culture Prize in 2020.
