Literary Harmonies: 'The marvelous altarpiece of Miguel and William' at El Corte Inglés Preciados-Callao
- Date: At april 23
- Schedule: from 19:30 to 21:00
On April 23rd, 410 years ago, Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare died at the same time. Well, not exactly. But legend says they did, and we're big fans of legends; especially of mixing them up. That's why, on this day celebrating books and reading, we bring to the audience of Ámbito Cultural the two most immortal authors in the history of world literature... pitted against each other to see who is better and more necessary in this crazy 21st century, through their own texts, imperishable treasures that explore human nature and the human condition, society, moral values, and the abuses of power.
In this new installment of Literary Harmonies, the Hernández&Fernández company presents us with a cockfight, so to speak, but with words, phrases, and verses that continue to speak to us throughout the ages.
- - Playwright: Mario Hernández
- - Performers: Jose Fernández and Sara Mata
- - Sound Design & Direction: Hernández & Fernández
Don't miss this event:
- - Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m.
- - In-person attendance until capacity is reached.
About Hernández & Fernández (Direction and Sound Design)
"Literary Tunes." They have premiered two theatrical productions to excellent critical and public acclaim: "The Mortal Sin of Madame Campoamor" (Teatro del Barrio / Teatro Bellas Artes) and "Hemingway: Special Correspondent," for which they won two 2023 Cinemagavia Awards for Best Play and Best Performer. While juggling their other activities (Hernández is also a theater director and playwright, as well as a filmmaker and screenwriter, with a recently released film; Fernández is an actor and playwright, currently touring with "Salomé"), they are preparing their third theatrical production, an ambitious step forward for their company.
About 'Literary Harmonies'
A project created by Hernández & Fernández in collaboration with Ámbito Cultural El Corte Inglés, which transcends the typical staged reading to offer the audience a complete theatrical experience that merges theater, podcasting, and audiovisual elements, all under the guise of, and a tribute to, classic radio drama. Following their initial experience with "The Mortal Sin of Madame Campoamor," which premiered in March 2021 and has been restaged in its stage version at Teatro del Barrio and Teatro Bellas Artes, they continued with "The Pardon" by Pardo Bazán and "Ernest Vs. Hemingway" (adapted into a theatrical monologue titled "Hemingway. Special Correspondent," winner of two Cinemagavia Awards and premiered at Teatro del Barrio, currently touring), "The Two Lives of Anaïs Nin," "The Night I Arrived at Café Gijón," "The Eyes of Martha Gellhorn," "Almudena's Journey," and "The Invisible Scene." Some of these pieces have been adapted into radio serials for the RNE program La Sala.
