The Cultural Center at El Corte Inglés in Málaga will host the second lecture in the 19th "A Date with the Stars" series on Thursday, March 5th at 7:30 pm. Entitled "Astrophysics with a Sock", the lecture will be given by Dr. Josefa Becerra González, a senior scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) (Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics and Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics), and is organized by the Málaga Astronomy Society. The event will be introduced by Ignacio Pérez García, a member of the organizing committee.

Astrophysics is one of the most fascinating branches of science, although we often perceive it as something distant and unrelated to our daily lives: a universe of immense dimensions and technical concepts difficult to grasp. However, the cosmos is the stage for our own existence, both when we develop complex models to understand it and when we go shopping or stroll down Larios Street. Astrophysics helps us find our place in the world: from something as simple as a sock to the society in which we live.

This lecture will explore some of the most extreme phenomena in the universe (black holes, gravitational waves, cosmic rays, and the formation of chemical elements) to discover how they can all be connected to an everyday object. It's an invitation to recognize the extraordinary in the ordinary.
